Rio Grande Zoo
Get up close and personal with more than 250 species of exotic and native animals at the Rio Grande Zoo. Popular species include seals and sea lions, chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, elephants, polar bears, giraffes, hippos, camels, tamarins, koalas, Mexican wolves, mountain lions, monkeys, jaguars, zebras and rhinoceros. View state-of-the-art exhibits set amid eye-pleasing landscapes complete with special grasses, trees and water formations designed to make the animals feel at home in natural habitats.
Albuquerque Aquarium
The Albuquerque Aquarium brings the Gulf of Mexico inside with its spectacular exhibits of saltwater species from a variety of habitats. An amazing 285,000-gallon ocean tank contains brown, sandtiger, blacktip and nurse sharks which swim alongside brilliantly colored reef fish, eels, sea turtles and other open ocean species.
Rio Grande Botanic Garden
Near the Albuquerque Aquarium, rests the lush and peaceful Rio Grande Botanic Garden, a virtual oasis in this southwest desert area. The Garden is comprised of 30 developed acres, including a 10,000-square foot glass conservatory with desert and Mediterranean area plants as well as the Rio Grande Heritage Farm showing New Mexico farm life of the 1920s and 1930s.
Indian Pueblo Cultural Center
The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center is a living tribute to the Pueblo Indian culture indigenous to this area of the country and is committed to the preservation and perpetuation of Pueblo Indian culture, history and art, Serving as the Gateway to the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico, the center showcases how the Pueblo Indians have maintained their identity and cultural continuity their methods. The variety of special exhibits can be found in presentations in the Museum, the Pueblo House Children’s Museum and galleries. The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center also offers programs to educate, share and preserve the Pueblo way of life.
